Bob West Drive for Marshall a Great Success

The 40th Annual Bob West Drive for Marshall Golf Tournament took place on June 23rd with golfers enjoying a day of play under sunny, but cool, skies at the Cold Springs Golf and Country Club. Chaired by West’s son-in-law, Bob Gillett, the tournament raised approximately $183,000 to benefit the Marshall Foundation for Community Health.

Proceeds from this year’s sold-out tournament will support health programs at Marshall Medical Center, health related community needs, and a portion of the proceeds will help underwrite the construction cost for an ambulance portico outside Marshall Medical Center’s emergency department. The new portico will protect patients, first responders, and clinicians from the elements. “Patients arrive by ambulance in all kinds of weather, from rain and snow to extreme heat. The new portico will offer shelter from the elements, providing a better experience for patients and those who care for them,” says Mindy Danovaro, Executive Director, Marshall Foundation for Community Health. Construction on the new portico is estimated to cost nearly $1 million.

Along with Gillett, several members of West’s family participated in this year’s golf tournament to honor his contributions to Marshall over the years. In addition to launching the tournament in 1982, West helped found both the hospital in the late 1950s and Marshall Foundation for Community Health in 1974. He also participated in designing the Cold Springs Golf and Country Club, where the tournament takes place each year.

“As we mark the tournament’s 40th anniversary, I would like to thank all the sponsors and players that participated this year, and in past years, who have made this tournament a success,” notes Gillett. “Together, we have raised funds that help Marshall Medical provide the best care for our community. Bob West always said that for a community to prosper, it needs great medical care.”

Among those stepping forward to support this year’s tournament were sponsors the Winn Foundation, Carter-Kelly, Inc., EPIC Brokers and Shingle Springs Health and Wellness Center. Their generous participation, along with others, helped raise more in sponsorship funding this year than any previous year in the tournament’s history.

The Foundation would like to thank the West family, the tournament committee, players, sponsors, and volunteers. Please mark your calendars for June 21, 2024, for next year’s event!
